The Southern Ports Authority (SPA) functions as Western Australia’s gateway to the world market. It is comprised of three discrete ports: Albany, Bunbury, and Esperance that merged in late 2014 to meet the demands of a growing West Australian economy. With the consolidation, came the need to reaffirm their organisational identity and unify all the ports under a single, internal information and communication tool.
The existing intranet design
As the lead UX designer, I worked with the SPA and our implementation partner, NEC, to visualise the business requirements into high fidelity UI designs to pass to the developer.
In order to establish a united vision, we facilitated a 4-hour discovery workshop with a diverse selection of SPA stakeholders, in which we would collaboratively define and prioritise the intranet's requirements.

In this phase I took the outputs from the discovery session and visualise the structure of key intranet screens and top-level navigation. Daily checkins were organised with NEC over the course of a week, to validate the technical feasibility of the proposed
Next we brought the 8 A2 wireframes to a 2-hour Co-design Workshop with SPA, for stakeholders to further define and refine the intranet design. What resulted would inform the intranet's interface design and development.
Now, employees have an easy and enjoyable way to find documents, the latest company news, and connect with one another.
